Christian Louboutin Shoe Cookies using SugarVeil Lace

Recently I got a request for Louboutin shoe cookies and I thought it would be a great opportunity to use my new SugarVeil Rose Mantilla mat. SugarVeil is a really cool flexible icing product. They sell a variety of silicon mats which are used to make edible lace. You can check out all their mats at www.sugarveil.com.

I had only used SugarVeil once before and had a tough time spreading it evenly onto the mat the first time but I wanted to give the product another try. This time, it seemed to spread out fairly easily (maybe I was getting better at this). A day later, the lace was still sticky to the touch (meaning not dry) so I decided to pop it in the oven to speed up drying time. (By the way, my oven is probably the worst oven you can buy - never buy an oven for looks). Anyway, even with the door open and at the lowest setting, my oven seemed to have gotten really hot in just a matter of minutes so I pulled out my SugarVeil mat and checked the lace. It seemed to have worked and dried out the icing but when I began to pull off the lace from the mat, it started to crumble at the edges. I really thought I had fried my lace! I took a breath...there wasn't time to spread out new icing. Luckily, I was able to get the lace off the mat and it came out like this. Whew! Crisis averted.

Although a lot of my lace was broken, I only needed a few small pieces of lace so I definitely had plenty to cover a few shoe cookies. First, I made a template with parchment paper. Since parchment paper is fairly sheer, I was able to trace over my cookie.

Even with the template, the first piece of lace that I cut out was a tad bit too small so I started cutting out slightly larger sized pieces and just trimmed it over the cookie. I found it easier to place the lace over the paper template while cutting it because when I held the lace under the paper, I was stretching it out and tearing it.

Here is the finished cookie below.

If you've seen Louboutin cookies before, you've probably seen Sugar Envy's extensive collection of Louboutin shoe cookies. If you haven't seen them yet, you can take a look at them here. I tried not to duplicate what Sugar Envy's already done but I just noticed that she had already done the silver bootie. Whoopsie! Oh well...
